Ingredients/Cooking Instructions

The rice that you must prepare would be either long-grain or short-grain white rice.

​Alternatively, you can also use brown rice. The measurement would be about one cup or 250 mL.

How to Make Pancakes out of Rice and Quinoa
Explore this article: "How to Make Pancakes out of Rice and Quinoa," and see how easy it is.
Homemade cooking is not simply a norm. It is a preferred lifestyle (for many households).

Preparing your breakfast is not just practical. You can,  by all means, make yummy, enticing foods. But you do not have to sacrifice nutrition.
Let's say, for instance, this gluten-free recipe that will create easy, delicious pancakes.
This recipe called "Easy Gluten-Free Rice Pancakes" (courtesy of USA Rice/Think Rice) brings a dose of complex carbohydrates necessary for building energy.

And it is oh so simple to create.
All you have to prepare are a few of your staple foods in your kitchen. That would include your brown rice (at least one-and-a-half cup) and one-half cup of quinoa.
Below is a list of ingredients that you will need:

1 1/2 cups brown rice

1/2 cup quinoa
2 cups water
1 ripe pear or apple, cored and chopped
2 tbsp hemp hearts
2 tbsp coconut sugar
pinch cinnamon
pinch sea salt
1/2 tsp coconut oil

Cooking Instructions:

Prepare rice and quinoa a night before you will make your pancakes. Rinse them separately.

In separate containers (or jars), you can soak quinoa and rice in water. Leave them overnight.

Put quinoa and rice in a blender with the soaked water.

Then, put the pear or apple (that you have prepared chopped) along with the two tablespoons of hemp hearts and two tablespoons of coconut sugar.

Then, add some sea salt and cinnamon. Blend until you see it's smooth enough.

You can then put some coconut oil in a medium-sized cooking pot to heat. Put it on medium-to-high heat.

Now, you can put some amounts of pancake-sized mixture into the pan.

Wait until you see that both sides (and the middle part) turn golden brown. That would ensure that the pancake is well cooked.

1.) Instead of using water, you can add broth or juices and coconut water. And did you know that you can even add beer or wine to rice?

2.) How about some ‘concentrated seasonings'? You can look into the benefits of some warm spices (such as cinnamon sticks), aromatics (such as garlic cloves and sliced ginger), and also, some flavoured tea bags and fresh herbs.

3.) Next, look into the idea of infusing the rice as it cooks with various concentrated flavours.  Depending on your preference, you can try various flavours. You can include flavoured oils, Asian condiments (such as fish sauce and tamari), herbs and ground spices, and even some pastes, such as tomato, chili, or miso.

4.) If you wish to add a little bit of (or more) texture (and even some more enhanced nutrition), you can include some diced vegetables, grated root veggies, and dried fruits, or legumes.

5.) Finally, you could also add more nutty or cheesy flavour to make a complete meal, with toasted nuts and seeds, grated or crumbled cheese, and even a spoonful of pesto (to create a more satisfying rice dish).

If you use rice most days of the week, you must learn how to store rice in many simple ways. It would be, indeed, practical and convenient to do that. You would be able to access rice with ease whenever you think about cooking your main dish (or simply preparing any meal that would blend with rice).
Here are some tips for ensuring that you are keeping or storing rice well.

Once you have opened a bag (or pack) of rice, you should store rice in a closed container.  That would ensure that rice would be kept clean. And also, that would help make rice free from dust and moisture. And that would even help avoid contamination.
If you are storing brown rice, you must take a different approach, however. Brown rice contains oil in its bran layer. That tends to shorten its shelf life. Brown rice would, therefore, be good to consume within six months.

You might want to place brown rice in a cold location (such as a refrigerator). Some would prefer to put brown rice in a freezer.

Here are ways on how you can reheat rice:
  • For every cup of (cooked) rice, you can add two tablespoons of water. 
  • Cover and place in the oven or stovetop (for about five minutes). 
  • You could also reheat one cup of rice in a microwave (for about a minute). Make sure rice is covered.
  • If you are reheating frozen rice, you can reheat (one cup of rice) for about two minutes. 
Conclusion

In essence, finding the time and learning about storing and reheating rice would enable you to experience some comfort and convenience.

​You would also be able to save time, money, and energy.

In the long run, you would thank yourself for taking the step to keeping rice (in your kitchen).

​In this post, "How to Cook Rice with Five Easy Meal Solutions", we explore easy cooking with rice, including practical dishes that can complement with rice.

How do you make rice the core of your meal solutions? And why your main meals should be prepared with rice?
With rice, you can be creative and make it work along with your favourite ingredients, your choices of protein, veggies and savoury sauces.

Begin by stocking up with pantry-friendly items. Include in your list your choice of rice products, vegetables (that you can store in your fridge or freezer) and any other kind of your favourite condiments.
The infographic presented here (courtesy of our friends from USA Rice) gives us some ideas on how we can easily prepare rice meals throughout a five-day home dining.

Making rice the foundation of your meal solutions that can complement with easy to cook dishes, here's how you can get started.
STEP 1:

​Use one cup (250mL) U.S. par-boiled long grain rice. Follow instructions on the package of the rice product, for the amount of water (and salt, if preferred). You can also set timer for five minutes less than the instructions on the package.
STEP 2:

Once timer goes, stir in your choice of protein, veggies and sauce ingredients. You can increase to medium heat. Cooking can take from ten to twelve minutes, stir once or wait until fluids have been absorbed.
STEP 3:

Let stand, covered, an additional five minutes. Spoon garnish with your preferred 'extras'. Then serve.

Voila! Cooking healthier meals can be done much easier more than you think!

Have you tried beets in your food diet?

Beets, as we all call here in Canada and the USA (also known as beetroot in European countries and British English) are very nutritious. Beets are a great source of dietary fiber, Vitamin C, iron and potassium.

Don’t worry. With beets, you will be consuming less cholesterol and saturated fat.

​Indeed, beets can be a great addition to your list of healthful foods.

And what is more amazing about it is that - beets blend pretty well with many other root vegetables and green veggies.

Have we mentioned rice?
​
That is right. Rice.

Our gluten-free recipe featured in this post called: “Beet and Rice Flatbread” would use Sushi rice.
​

Sushi rice and beets blend perfectly and can create a very flavourful and delish, gluten-free flatbread.
Below are the ingredients you will need to prepare to create this delish dish.

​Ingredients:
Flatbread:
1 bunch beets with tops, about 3 large
4 cups (1 L)cooked U.S. sushi rice
2eggs
½ cup (125 mL)flax meal
2 tbsp (30 mL)olive oil
2 tbsp (30 mL)lemon juice
½ tsp (2 mL)each salt and pepper
​Toppings:

1 cup (250 mL)garlic hummus
2 cups (500 mL)shredded smoked Cheddar
½ cup (125 mL)sliced Kalamata olives
2 cups (500 mL)halved grape tomatoes

​Reserved beet leaves and stems (*see below)
2 tsp (10 mL)olive oil
1 tsp (5 mL)lemon juice
¼ tsp (1 mL)each salt and pepper

This recipe makes about 8 servings.

You can serve this dish as appetizers and/or snacks.

PER SERVING (1/8 recipe or 1/4 flatbread): 400 calories, 20 g fat, 6 g saturated fat, 70 mg cholesterol, 570 mg sodium, 42 g carbohydrates, 5 g fibre, 4 g sugars, 14 g protein. % RDI: 20% calcium, 25% iron, 20% vitamin A, 25% vitamin C.

​1 cup U.S.-grown Wild Rice
1 Delicata Squash, seeded and cut into half moons
1 cup Cauliflower Florets
1 cup Butternut Squash, cubed
2 tbsp Avocado Oil
Salt and Pepper
2 1/2 cup Lacinato Kale, de-stemmed
1 cup Chickpeas, rinsed and drained
2 Medium Apple, chopped
1/4 cup Pumpkin Seeds
1/2 cup Shredded Parmesan
So, once you're ready with all the ingredients, the cooking time for this dish will only be about ten minutes.
